We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our mental health team as a key member of our healthcare workforce. As a Registered Nurse specializing in mental health, you will provide nursing care to patients with mental health conditions, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with mental health needs, promoting recovery and wellness.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ mental health status, including physical, emotional, social, and cognitive aspects, and develop individualized care plans based on the assessment findings.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by psychiatrists or other healthcare providers, and monitor patients’ responses to interventions, documenting accurately in electronic health records (EHR) or other relevant medical software.
  • Provide patient education and support regarding mental health conditions, medications, and coping strategies, and assist patients in developing self-care skills and strategies for managing their mental health.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions and provide individualized care to patients with mental health conditions, including crisis intervention, counseling, and behavior management, utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other members of the mental health team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients’ progress towards their mental health goals, and make adjustments to care plans as needed to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of group therapy sessions, psychoeducation programs, and other mental health programs, as appropriate.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families, and assist with discharge planning and coordination of care with community resources.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, practice policies and procedures, and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health nursing.

Requirements:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Sydney’s nursing regulatory body.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health nursing, preferably in an inpatient or outpatient mental health setting.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions, psychiatric medications, and evidence-based nursing interventions for mental health care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care based on patients’ mental health needs.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant medical software.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
