REGISTERED NURSE (PERIOPERATIVE)

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our perioperative team as a key member of our surgical services department. As a Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative care, you will provide nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. You will work collaboratively with the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care during all phases of the perioperative process.

Responsibilities:

*Conduct thorough preoperative assessments of patients, including physical, emotional, and social aspects, and develop individualized care plans based on the assessment findings.

*Coordinate and participate in the preparation of patients for surgery, including preoperative education, medication administration, and surgical site marking, ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control protocols.

*Assist with the setup of the operating room, including the preparation of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order during surgical procedures.

*Collaborate with the surgical team during surgical procedures, providing safe and efficient perioperative care, and maintaining a sterile field in the operating room.

*Monitor patients’ vital signs, anesthesia, and surgical progress during surgery, and communicate any changes or concerns to the surgical team.

*Provide postoperative care to patients in the recovery room or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), including monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and assisting with the recovery process.

*Assist with patient transfer to the surgical floor or other units, and provide handoff communication to the appropriate healthcare providers.

*Ensure accurate and timely documentation of perioperative care, including preoperative and postoperative assessments, medication administration, and nursing interventions, in electronic health records (EHR) or other relevant medical software.

*Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, other nurses, and support staff, to optimize patient outcomes and ensure safe and efficient perioperative care.

*Provide patient education and support regarding the perioperative process, including preoperative and postoperative care instructions, and assist patients and families in understanding the surgical procedure and associated risks.

*Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adherence to regulatory standards, practice policies and procedures, and infection prevention and control protocols.

*Participate in ongoing education and professional development to stay current with best practices in perioperative nursing.

Requirements:

*Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Sydney’s nursing regulatory body.

*Minimum of 2 years of experience in perioperative nursing, preferably in an operating room or surgical services setting.

*Strong knowledge and understanding of perioperative nursing principles, surgical procedures, and anesthesia management.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

*Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care based on patients’ perioperative needs.

*Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant medical software.

*Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
